Messi and Suarez Shine as Inter Miami Defeats CF Montreal 4-2 in MLS Showdown

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — May 29, 2025:
Superstars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez each scored twice and added an assist to lead Inter Miami to a thrilling 4-2 victory over CF Montreal in a crucial MLS Eastern Conference clash at Chase Stadium.
With this win, Inter Miami (7-3-5, 26 points) ended a four-game winless streak in league play and secured just its second victory in the last nine matches across all competitions. The result lifted Miami to sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings.
Luis Suarez, who had been struggling in recent games, doubled his MLS goal tally for the season with back-to-back strikes in the 68th and 71st minutes. His first came after a brilliant setup by Lionel Messi, who evaded a defender near the end line and sent a perfectly timed pass for Suarez to slot home from close range.
Just three minutes later, Suarez pounced on a deflection from Montreal’s George Campbell and buried his second goal past goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois, giving Miami a commanding 3-0 lead.
Lionel Messi, meanwhile, opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a spectacular long-range goal, assisted by Sergio Busquets. Messi capped off his performance with a second goal in the 87th minute, connecting on a clinical finish from a Suarez cross, putting the game beyond Montreal’s reach.
Despite the loss, CF Montreal (1-10-5, 8 points) managed two late goals. Dante Sealy scored in the 74th minute off a pass from Caden Clark, and Victor Loturi added a stoppage-time goal assisted by Sealy and Fernando Alvarez.
While the win was a much-needed boost for Inter Miami, it came at a cost. Already missing key midfielder Yannick Bright, Miami saw three starters—Jordi Alba, Gonzalo Lujan, and Tomas Aviles—exit in the first half due to injuries.
The dominant performances from Messi and Suarez, both former FC Barcelona teammates, continue to ignite Inter Miami’s playoff hopes as the MLS season heats up.
