Pakistan’s javelin sensation Arshad Nadeem has once again etched his name in history, winning the gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships with a final throw of 86.40 metres. His winning throw came in the last round, showcasing his remarkable ability to perform under pressure.

Nadeem, who made headlines with a historic 92.97m Olympic record at Paris 2024, came just short of the Asian Championship record of 86.72m, but comfortably secured the top podium finish.

Final Standings:

  • 🥇 Arshad Nadeem (Pakistan) – 86.40m

  • 🥈 Sachin Yadav (India) – 85.16m

  • 🥉 Yuta Sakiyama (Japan) – 83.75m


Performance Highlights:

Nadeem opened the competition with a steady 75.64m, then improved with 76.60m in the second attempt. It was in the third round where he stunned the crowd with a throw of 85.57m, taking the lead. His fourth and fifth throws of 83.99m and 84.50m showed consistency, before he delivered the winning 86.40m throw in the final round.

Fellow Pakistani Yasir Sultan showed promise, throwing 75.39m in his second attempt but could not break into the top three. His best mark of the day was 75.50m.


Celebrations Across Pakistan

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Arshad on his achievement. In his hometown Mian Channu, celebrations erupted with sweets distributed and traditional drums beating, as locals danced to “Dil Dil Pakistan” echoing in the streets.

On the field, an emotional Arshad offered sajda (prostration) in gratitude to Allah after his win.
