Deadly Residential Fire Near Kuwait City Claims Five Lives, Several Injured

Kuwait City — A devastating fire broke out early Sunday morning in a residential building in the Rigga area, about 10 kilometers southwest of the capital, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to several others, according to Kuwait’s General Fire Force.

Two Apartments Completely Gutted, Casualties Feared to Rise
The fire originated in two separate apartments, rapidly engulfing parts of the building and forcing panicked residents to leap from upper floors to escape the flames. Spokesman Brigadier General Mohammed Al Gharib confirmed that three victims were found dead at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Several more suffered burns and were either treated on-site or transported to nearby medical facilities.

Authorities have warned that the death toll could increase due to the severity of some injuries. Rescue teams later recovered charred bodies from the remains of the structure.

Swift Emergency Response, Yet Echoes of Past Tragedy
Firefighting units from the Shuwaikh Industrial and Ardiya stations, along with specialised search and rescue teams, responded swiftly to the emergency. The fire was eventually brought under control, but not before causing significant damage to the apartments involved.

The General Fire Force noted disturbing parallels between this incident and the tragic Mangaf fire, which had previously claimed 49 lives and raised serious concerns about building safety and fire preparedness in Kuwait’s densely populated residential zones.

Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the blaze. Meanwhile, the community remains on edge as yet another fatal fire highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in residential building safety standards across the country.
