Saudi Arabia Ensures Over 1 Million Cubic Metres of Water Daily for Hajj 1446 Pilgrims

Saudi Arabia Activates Massive Water Supply Plan for Hajj 1446 Pilgrims

As millions of Muslims worldwide prepare to perform Hajj in the Islamic year 1446, Saudi Arabia has launched an extensive operational readiness plan to meet the pilgrimage’s massive water demands. The National Water System, under the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, has completed preparations to ensure an uninterrupted water supply across all holy sites during the pilgrimage.

Up to One Million Cubic Metres of Water Daily
Water pumping is expected to average 750,000 cubic metres per day throughout Hajj, surging past one million cubic metres on peak days such as Arafat Day and Eid al-Adha. This initiative guarantees high operational efficiency and environmental safety, especially in Mecca, Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah, and the Grand Mosque.

Eighteen Key Infrastructure Projects Completed
In preparation for the influx of pilgrims, the Kingdom completed 18 major water infrastructure projects in Mecca and the surrounding holy sites. These projects include:

  • Expansion of water distribution networks

  • Enhancement of strategic storage facilities

  • Modernization of pumping stations

  • Upgrades to advanced wastewater treatment systems

These developments are part of Saudi Arabia’s national water strategy aimed at delivering seamless service throughout the Hajj season.

Advanced Transport and Storage Network
With a daily desalinated water transport capacity of over 1.2 million cubic metres, the Kingdom’s water infrastructure includes a transport network exceeding 1,300 kilometers. Pumping station efficiency now exceeds 125 percent.

32,000 Public Restrooms Ready for Use
To accommodate the needs of the pilgrims, more than 32,000 public restrooms across Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah have been inspected and prepared.

Commitment to Operational Excellence
The Saudi Water Authority has conducted comprehensive inspections and technical checks to ensure all systems—from water production and transport to storage, distribution, and treatment—are fully aligned with national standards.

Saudi Arabia’s massive water management plan for Hajj 1446 reflects its commitment to serving pilgrims with excellence, safety, and sustainability. With infrastructure operating at peak capacity and readiness levels exceeding expectations, the Kingdom continues to lead in hosting one of the world’s largest annual gatherings.
